On 28 September, 2021, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur has organized a programme on Climate-Resilient Agriculture. In this programme 187 farmers from different localities (Panagar, Patan and Bargi) of Jabalpur along with all the staff of the Directorate participated. Before the start of Hon’ble PM’s address, farmers – scientist interaction session was organized following COVID-19 guidelines, during which farmers were made aware of the adverse effect of climate change on agriculture and various mitigation technologies like use of climate-resilient short duration crops and varieties with greater inclusion of millets, conservation agriculture, weed management, etc. through power point presentation and discussion.
Thereafter, all the farmers participated in PM’s online address, where in Hon’ble PM emphasized on 35 varieties having biotic and abiotic stress tolerant traits, inauguration of National Institute of Biotic Stress Management at Raipur and awarded Clean Green Campus Agriculture University to four Agricultural Universities. The farmers-scientist interaction continued even after PM’s address. Farmers were also provided with spraying kit and were trained for its use while spraying herbicides.
A field visit was also arranged where in they were exposed to climate-resilient crops, varieties, millets, conservation agriculture practices and weed management technologies developed and demonstrated by the Directorate.
