ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas on 15 October, 2021 at Directorate. The day was celebrated on theme ‘Equity and Empowerment’ with around 50 farm women along with all staff members of the Directorate. To recognize the contribution of women farmers in Indian agriculture and to provide them the information about the government initiatives to empower the women farmers, the programme was organized.
In his remarks, Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director welcomed the women farmers and spelled out their contribution in Indian agriculture. He mentioned equity and empowerment of women, and the role and importance of mahila kisan (women farmers) in agriculture and allied activities in addition to their daily household activities. During the programme, Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist expressed his views on this occasion and talked about the contribution of women farmers in making India self-sufficient in food. He stressed more on empowerment of women farmers through different self Help Groups and small enterprises for uplifting the financial and societal status of the farm families. Dr. Yogita Gharde, Scientist urged women farmers to increase their awareness level on agriculture and also to nurture their children with the spirit of equity whether it is girl or boy.
Women farmers also interacted with the scientists of the Directorate on problems related to agriculture in general and weed management in particular. Women farmers were also felicitated in this occasion on account of their significant contribution in different farm activities. During the programme, scientists, technical officers and other staff of the Directorate were also present.
