Dr. Surya Narayan Bhaskar, Assistant Director General (Agronomy, Agroforestry & Climate Change), ICAR, New Delhi visited the ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur (M.P.). On 18.10.2021, Dr. Bhaskar visited the field experiments and research farm, and monitored the field experiments, laboratories and research farm. While interacting with the staff members of the Directorate, Dr. Bhaskar emphasized on the need of the basic and strategic research in weed science, and to avoid duplication in the research with other ICAR institutions. More emphasis needs to be given on emerging weed issues like weedy rice, invasive weeds, aquatic weeds etc. Research results need to be replicated on the farmers’ field, he added.
On the next day, i.e. 19.10.2021, the ADG (AF&CC), ICAR visited the farmers’ fields under “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme and interacted with more than 60 farmers. He monitored the demonstrations on the weed management in conservation agriculture- based Rice-wheat-moongbean cropping system.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur apprised the ADG (AAF&CC), ICAR about the ongoing research activities of the Directorate and development of research farm. Dr. P.K. Singh, Pr. Scientist informed about the outreach activities of the Directorate.
