ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research organized 4 days training programme on “Fasalon me Unnat Kharpatwar Prabandhan”   (03-06 October, 2023)


The ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized a 4 days training programme on “Fasalon me Unnat Kharpatwar Prabandhan” under ATMA programme, Satna, MP Govt. at the Directorate during 03-06 October 2023. Around 50 farmers along with Block Technology Manager (BTM) and Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) from Satna district, Madhya Pradesh participated in the programme. The training programme included both theory and practical classes on different aspects of weed identification, management and their utilization.

During the training programme, the resource persons briefed the participants about weeds, their classification, nature of appearance and their management. New-generation herbicide molecules available to control the weeds effectively in different crops were also briefed during the programme. The farmers informed about mechanical weeders suitable to different crop spacings and crop cultivation conditions. The effective herbicide application technique was briefed and a practical demonstration of herbicide application techniques and safety aspects was also conducted. The farmers were informed about the Parthenium management and its utilization. Information on effective weed management in millet crops was given and farmers were encouraged to adopt millets in their daily diet. A visit to the workshop, research farm, OTC and FACE facilities, Museum-cum-Information Centre, Biological control and Precision weed management laboratories was also conducted.

During the training programme Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur addressed the farmers about the crop yield losses occurring due to weeds and adoption of advanced weed management practices to mitigate the problem. He also emphasized on importance of Integrated Weed Management for effective weed control. Dr. P.K. Singh, Pr. Scientist and Coordinator of the training programme briefed the farmers about different crop cultivation techniques, weed management practices and weed utilization. Further, he also informed the farmers about various approaches in an integrated manner to control the Parthenium effectively. Dr. Chethan C.R., Scientist and Co-Coordinator of the training programme coordinated the programme.
