On August 23, 2024, a Knowledge Awareness Program on ‘Climate change and the distribution of study kits’ was organized for 12th-grade students from the Scheduled Caste farming community at Government Higher Secondary School, Gandhigram, Gosalpur, as part of the NICRA project.
Dr. Shobha Sondhia, Principal Scientist (Organic Chemistry) and Course Director, discussed the impact of climate change on daily life, crops, and weeds. She emphasized the crucial role of students as India's future and hoped that the study materials provided would aid their success in upcoming competitive exams after their 12th Board exams. The session also covered strategies to mitigate climate change impacts and provided guidance on climate smart plant sampling. Career advice was also provided to the students.
Dr. Rakesh Sharma, School Principal, Smt. Anjali Khare, Bioscience Teacher, and Mr. Rakesh Chorasia, Math Teacher, also addressed the students, discussing climate change and various post-12th opportunities. Dr. Deepak Pawar, Scientist in Agricultural Biotechnology and Dr. Dasari Sreekanth, Scientist in Plant Physiology, explained the effects of climate change on crop-weed interactions and herbicide efficacy. They highlighted the importance of the study materials for competitive exams and facilitated the distribution of materials including General Knowledge books, NEET and JEE preparation guides, spiral notebooks, pens, and document files, etc. to 34 students from Devnagar, Gandhigram, Bhirasen, Jhansi, Tikariya, Badkhera, BadkheriUmariyam Tapam Kailvas, Devri villages of the Gosalpur locality. The event concluded with a vote of thanks. Dr. Sreekanth and Dr. Deepak Pawar coordinated the training program. Higher Secondary School Teachers of this school and NICRA staff also participated in the program.
