ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March, 2021 at Directorate. This day was organized with the women farmers from two villages viz Umariachoube and Barouda adopted under Farmer FIRST Project and also from nearby localities of Jabalpur. In his remarks, Dr. J.S Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR welcomed the women farmers in the programme and mentioned about importance of the day. He talked about the importance of women empowerment in society and achieving gender equality in order to ensure the sustainable development of the country.
On this occasion, Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist & Chairman, Organizing Committee talked about the role of women in Indian agriculture and also shared some of the experiences where women achieved heights. Dr. R.P. Dubey, Principal Scientist &PI, FFP talked about the contributions and role of women from UmariaChoube and Barouda villages adopted under FFP project and shared their contributions in Mushroom cultivation, Poultry and Milk production. Three women from these villages were felicitated with memento and certificate of appreciation.
Programme was also attended by Mrs. Asha Dahiya, Sarpanch, AchlauniPoudi, Jabalpur. She motivated the women farmers to make self help group and do work collectively as entrepreneur. Dr. Yogita Gharde, Scientist coordinated the programme. The programme was attended by around 70 women farmers from different villages. During the programme 76 members of the Directorate including scientists and technical officers and students of the Directorate were also present.
