In India both cropland and non-cropland ecosystems have suffered severe losses due to many invasive. In the past efforts have been made to address the problem but the outcomes were short of expectations and so far weeds of national importance have not been identified. Therefore, this brainstorming webinar was organized to find out the weeds of National Importance in India to make future strategies for their management. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Principal Scientist (DWR, Jabalpur) & President, ISWS, has delivered the talk on this important topic. This webinar was chaired by Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur and convened by Dr. Anil Kumar, Professor of Agronomy and Associate Director Research, SKUAST- Jammu, Srinagar.
Dr. Sushilkumar, presented the scebnrio of alein weed problems in the country. He highlighted the criterial of selecting the weeds of National Importance and also suggested about 20 weed species which may qualify the characteristics of being the weeds of national importance. The topic was discussed in details by the renowned weed scientists of the country.
