The ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized a Webinar for the farmers of Damoh, Sehore, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Balaghat, Vidisha, Shajapur and other districts of MP on 20th May 2021 under the series of ‘Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. In the Webinar total of 125 participants including farmers, researcher, students etc., were participated. Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, inaugurated the progamme and stated about status of soybean cultivation in Madhya Pradesh. He also told the farmers to use right variety, right methods, and improved management practices to obtain higher crop productivity. He urged the farmers to adopt conservation agriculture in larger area to minimize the production cost and also to improve the soil health along with optimum crop yield. He also urged the farmers to get the maximum benefit of the demonstrations exhibited at farmers of nearby area and also explain to other with advantages of the demonstrations.
Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal investigator of the project detailed about the on-going activities of the project at Damoh, Sehore and Hoshangabad districts of MP. He educated the farmers about weeds and their management. One to one interaction with the farmers was also done to understand the problems faced by them and possible remedies were provided. Farmers were encouraged making Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) adopting successful models of the Sehore district.
Dr. V.K. Choudhary, Co-PI of the project detailed about importance and general information on soybean, improved management practices, importance of seed treatment, water, nutrient, weed and pest management. Er. Chethan C.R., Co-PI of the project explained the importance and safety issue of herbicide spray and nozzle selection. Later, interaction session was held where farmers concerns and problems were appropriately addressed. The webinar was facilitated by Mr. Dharmendra Baghele and Mr. Jainpal Rathore (YP-II) from ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur and Mr. Rajesh Verma & Mr. Durgesh Rathore, from Manthan. At the end, webinar was ended with vote of thanks.
