All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management (AICRP-WM)
Background
The AICRP-Weed Control was started under USDA programme for a period of six years
from April, 1978. The Ist phase centres as given below remained for six years from
April, 1978 to March, 1984. The IInd phase centres -were for five years from April,

Research Programme on Weed Control.
Vide council letter number NRM-24-9/2013-IA-II dated 27th November, 2014, the Diretorate was renamed as "Directorate of Weed Research (DWR)". All India Coordinated Research
Project on Weed Control (AICRP-WC) was also Renamed as All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management (AICRP-WM).
Objectives of AICRP-WM
-
- To study the weed flora and their distribution, ecology and habitat under different
agro-climatic regions of the country.
- To work out the effective and economical weed management practices for cereals,
pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, fodder and orchard crops under different cropping
systems.
- To find out the weed management practices in relation to effective utilization of
fertilizers and manures.
- To study ecology of most obnoxious weeds of cropped and non-cropped lands.
- To study ecology, habitat, crop–weed relationships of aquatic, semi aquatic and
parasitic weeds.
- To study long term cumulative residue effects, if any, of herbicides and to standardize
bioassay technique for estimating herbicides residue in soil, plant and water system.
- To design and develop weed control tools and implements.
Mandate of of AICRP-WM
-
- To conduct location-specific research for developing appropriate weed management
technologies
- To demonstrate the weed management technologies through on-farm adoptive trials
