ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized 5 days training programme on ‘Weed management strategies’ for achiever farmers, officials from NGO’s and state agriculture department of UP Govt. from Barabanki, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar and Amethi districts during 24-28 September, 2018. This training programme was sponsored by State Institute for Management of Agriculture (SIMA), Directorate of Agriculture, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. P.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur informed the trainees about various weed management strategies being followed in order to minimize the weed menace and also shared the experiences on weed management strategies to be practiced in conservation agriculture. During the programme, Dr. R.P. Dubey Principal Scientist addressed the gathering and urged the participants to disseminate the weed management technologies to their localities which are being explained to them during training period, so that others will also get benefitted.
During the training programme trainees were explained about various weed management techniques and technologies in cereals, pulses, oilseeds and vegetable crops, along with non-cropped situations. Weed management in organic farming and weed management in conservation agriculture system were also explained in detail. Demonstration on herbicide application technologies and safety measures during herbicide applications was given. They were also taught about how to combat the resistance development issues in weeds against herbicides. In addition economic importance and medicinal values of weeds were also given. Scientist from Directorate explained in detail about biological control of invasive weeds. A field visit was also organized to Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), Jabalpur and at Directorate. At the end all the participants were very much satisfied and they were happy about the course content and knowledge gained. The programme was coordinated by Dr. V.K.
