ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized MahilaKisanDiwas on 15 October 2020 at Directorate. This day was organized to interact with the women farmers from nearby villages and provide them information on agriculture related issues including weed management.

In his remarks, Dr. P.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-DWR welcomed the women farmers in the programme and mentioned about theircontribution in Indian agriculture starting from cleaning and sowing of seeds to the harvesting/threshing stage. He talked on precautions to be taken during spray of herbicides and other issues related to farming. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Dr. K.K. Barman and Dr. R.P. Dubey, expressed their views on this occasion and talked about the contribution of women farmers in making India self-sufficient in food. Dr. Yogita Gharde and Dr. Jaya Singh talked about women empowerment and asked women farmers to increase their awareness level on agriculture.

Women farmers also interacted with the scientists of the Directorate on problems related to agriculture in general and weed management in particular. The programme was attended by around 70 women farmersfrom nearby villages namelyPanagar and Maharajpur. Five women farmerswere also honoured in this occasion on account of their significant contribution in different farm activities. During the programmescientists and technical officers of the Directorate were also present.
