This Directorate is observing ‘Parthenium Awareness Week’ 16-22 August 2016 to make farmers and general public aware about the menace of Parthenium, which is responsible for causing health problems in human beings and animals, besides deteriorating environment, loss of productivity and biodiversity. This year also ‘XI Parthenium Awareness Week’ has stared on 16 August, 2016 at Gujar Sahni village, Mandla.
In this occasion, Dr A.R. Sharma, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur talked about menace of Parthenium. He also shared his viewpoint on importance and adoption of conservation agriculture in the Madhya Pradesh. Mr K.S. Netam, Agriculture Department informed new schemes and subsidy being offered by state government on various agricultural inputs. Information on weed management technologies were given by Dr R.P. Dubey and Dr Sushilkumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur.
Scientists and technical staff of ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur, KVK, Mandla, officials from State Agricultural department, local politicians, media persons, farmers, local residents and school children were participated in this programme. Various activities like Parthenium uprooting, releasing of Mexican beetles, distribution of Mexican beetle and visit to farmers field were also organized. Program was convened by Dr P. K. Singh, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur.
